About this PDF to Word converter

Need to edit the words in a PDF? This converter creates a Word document (.docx) with the PDF's text arranged into paragraphs, with a page break after each original page. It is deliberately text-focused: reproducing complex PDF layouts as Word documents is unreliable even for desktop software, so we don't pretend to.

How PDF to Word conversion works

  1. PDF.js reads each page's text and positions in your browser.
  2. Lines are grouped into paragraphs; noticeably larger text becomes Word headings.
  3. A standard .docx file is generated locally with a page break between original pages.

Conversion quality: Basic (simplified). Creates an editable Word document with the PDF's text, paragraphs and page breaks. Layout, images and tables are not reproduced.

When to convert PDF to Word

  • Editing or rewriting the text of a letter, essay or report you only have as a PDF
  • Reusing text from a PDF in a new Word document

Limitations to be aware of

  • Images, tables, columns, headers/footers and exact fonts are not carried over.
  • Scanned PDFs have no text layer and will produce an empty document.
  • If you need the document to look exactly like the PDF, keep the PDF or convert pages to images.

PDF vs Word

PDF. PDF (Portable Document Format) stores pages with fixed layout, fonts and images so a document looks the same on every device. It is built for viewing and printing rather than editing.

Word (DOCX). DOCX is the default Microsoft Word document format. It stores text, styles, tables and images as XML files inside a ZIP archive.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't the Word file look like my PDF?

PDF stores positioned characters, not paragraphs and styles. Rebuilding the original layout is guesswork, so this tool focuses on giving you clean, editable text.

Can I open the result in Google Docs or LibreOffice?

Yes. The output is a standard .docx file that Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages can open.

Are my files uploaded?

No. This tool reads and processes files directly in your web browser. Nothing is sent to Expensico's servers, and the data is discarded when you close or reload the page.
